Newsweek has learned the package lost by a US Postal Service employee at his home in Oregon last week was not a lost package.
The USPS lost a package that was not in its original packaging on Thanksgiving morning, said the agency.
On Friday, the USPS posted a note on its website that said the package was not lost.
It was a lost item.
We lost it, but we will be able to recover it, the agency said in the statement.
The message went on to say that the USPS would “recover” the package in a week.
The USPS also offered a $2,500 reward for information leading to the return of the package.
The message said the missing item was a large “Christmas tree” with a gift inside.
“A great Thanksgiving gift for all those who love the holidays and all the little people who have no way to celebrate,” the message said.
The Postal Service said the post office is currently conducting an investigation into the loss.
It said the USPS is working to locate the package, recover it and notify the person who lost it.
